Hippie Casual
It's really hot outside, especially for May, so tank tops are definitely in order. Today was a pretty relaxed day, I went to a coffee shop to study, so I wore something cool and casual.
It's not really a hippie outfit, although it's got some cliched hallmarks- clay and twine necklace, flared jeans, big glasses.
I have been really into belts lately- looking back at the posts I realized that I have a belt on in almost every outfit- I feel like they add shape to an outfit. Everything I'm wearing today is pretty loose, so I wanted to bring it in and little... no hiding curves here.
There's not a huge "wow" factor to this outfit, but I think it shows that a simple everyday outfit doesn't have to be plain. I think of outfits in terms of themes- like what theme, or vibe does this outfit convey- and fit that theme within my personal style.
I've been a huge Beatles fan since I was a kid, but I'm pretty picky about Beatles shirts (I've gone so far as to have one made at Neighborhoodies), since there are no shortage to choose from, but I was stoked to find this unique take on a 'band shirt' from Faith 21. It's a little Warhol-funky with the pictures on the front, and I dig the colors and the writing across the back.
Navy Blue Tank: H&M, L
Beatles Tank: Faith 21, XL- this is a loose, airy top
Diva Cut Jeans, 18: Old Navy - I always have to go up a size in this particular cut- there's generally very little stretch to the jeans in this cut
Belt: Faith 21- I removed this belt from a Faith 21 dress that I have
"Restricted" Gold Strappy Flats: Thrifted from Crossroads, San Francisco, Ca.
Gold Bangles: Forever 21
Necklace: Gift- I think it's from a street vendor in Berkeley, Ca.
Purple Sunglasses: Forever 21
Excuse the un-made bed. Oops.
I usually wear black eyeliner, but today I tried a dark maroonish eyeliner pencil I picked up from Ulta (Ulta Brand in "Plum") and it gives me the same dark look I like, but without the inevitable dark smudges under my eyes. And I think it works pretty well with dark eyes.
I had never heard of Ulta until I moved down to Southern California and now I'm a big fan. Ulta is a lot like Sephora in that it houses a variety of beauty products, but with the added bonus of carrying drugstore brands. They've always got some kind of promotion going, in the store and online, so if you've never been or have never visited the website, I would recommend it.
This was a birthday gift from a friend a few years ago. I think she got it from a street vendor in Berkeley, probably somewhere on Telegraph. "Paz" means "peace" in Portuguese (and Spanish). I wore this almost everyday for months after getting it; reminds me of good times.
Forever 21 twisted gold bangles.
I searched high and low in every conceivable store for gold flats for a Halloween costume one year, and I ended up finding these little treasures at Crossroads on Haight Street for $5. I've had them for years, and they work just as well with a dress or skirt as with jeans.
I've ruined many pants trying to get this ribbed-distressed look. I finally broke down and picked some up from Old Navy a few months back. These are super flare, Diva-cut jeans. I really like a lot of the Diva-cut styles Old Navy offers, but they run small, so I always have to go up a size.
